How do you manage your time?
We only have a certain number of hours in the day. Time management is such a critical thing when we are looking to increase our productivity. Whether it be at home, in the workplace or school.
Here are 7 easy steps to increase your productivity.
1. CLEAR THE CLUTTER
Clear your desk, your computer, your office and/or home of any clutter. Once you do, you will be able to think clearly and possibly be less overwhelmed.
2. WRITE DOWN YOUR HIGHEST PRIORITY / PRIORITIES OR OUTCOMES
By being clear on your highest priorities, you will be less inclined to be distracted by what is the most recent or loudest thought or action competing for your time. List these priorities from highest to lowest.
3. OUTLINE YOUR ACTION STEPS
Your actions are the steps that will get you to your outcome. Commit to crossing off your action steps by set timelines.
4. EVALUATE THE PROS / CONS OF THE OUTCOME
Outline the benefits of completing, or the cons of not achieving your outcome. This gives emotion and charge to the process.
5. ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS
Get focused on the specific outcome and action steps at hand. By focusing on one thing at a time, your results and efficiency will skyrocket.
6. LESS IS MORE
Periods of intense focus and concentration (eg 90 mins maximum), followed by regular breaks, has been shown to be most effective. Research shows it can significantly decrease burnout and mental exhaustion, while maximising productivity.
7. GET PLENTY OF REST
Cutting back on sleep as a means of getting more done has been shown to actually decrease productivity. This is because the brain takes longer to process information, and is less alert. If you are experiencing fatigue, sleep experts say that 20-30 minute naps can also be used to improve reaction time and brain vigilance, thereby further increasing mental productivity.
Follow these easy steps and get more out of your day!
